Of course, unique celebrity baby names strutted their stuff, too. Take Egypt and Cosima, for example.

How Much Weight Should You Gain During Pregnancy

We have to come to one of the most favorite question for most women (including my wife) during pregnancy, How Much Weight Should You Gain During Pregnancy?. Aside from the overall condition of the baby inside the womb, one of the major things that stress women when they are conceiving is pregnancy weight gain. This is because they are so afraid to gain so much weight and be among those women who are suffering from a condition called obesity. Hey! what's wrong of gaining weight? It's perfectly normal for pregnant women and there's nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, my wife looks prettier while she is pregnant with my child :-)

Experts are saying that pregnant women regardless of their condition should always stay healthy throughout the duration of pregnancy. Being healthy does not only entails having a positive outlook in life but also good eating habits to supply the nutrients needed both by the mother and the baby. So let's go through some of the points in gaining weight and why is it important shall we?

Why Gaining Weight is So Important?

  • By eating right, it will provides the best nutrients for the developing fetus.
  • To provide a healthy birth weight.
  • To prevent any health risks of fetus throughout the pregnancy.
  • To prepare the body for deliver.

How Much Weight Should I Gain During Pregnancy?

  • It depends on BMI prior to pregnancy. A healthy weight gain during pregnancy should be between 25-35 lbs with BMI of 20-25.
  • For those with BMI less than 20 should gain 28-40 lbs to be on the right level.
  • For those whose having BMI more than 27 lbs should gain 15-25lbs.

What Are The Factors of Gaining The Right Weight?
  • Your heights.
  • Number of baby you're carrying.
  • Your age.
  • Your lifestyle and eating habits.
  • Any health concerns such as diabetics, etc.

Look At That Weight!! Where Does It Go To?

Baby                   7.5 lbs    Uterus            2 lbs

Total equals to 30 Lbs

How to Achieve the Weight Safely?
  • Gain the right weight at a slow and steady rate.
  • Normally, weight gain varies within trimester such as follow:
    1. Only 2-8 lbs during 1st trimester
    2. 2nd trimester 0.75-1 lb/week
    3. 3rd trimester 0.75-1 lb/week
  • Higher weight gain if you're expecting twins (1.5 lbs/week)

How Should I Change My Eating Habits?

  • Eat small but frequent meals. Break it into 5-6 meals a day.
  • Consume more required nutrients and vitamins (Calcium, Iron, Protein, Folic Acid, Vitamin D, Zinc)
  • Prenatal vitamins are recommended but consult with your doctor on which vitamins you should take.
  • Eat nutrient dense snacks if you prefer something light.
  • Treat yourself on occasion (My wife likes to have McDonald's Sundae on her treat day :-) )

Exercising While Pregnant?

Don't worry about how much weight should you gain during pregnancy, every mom should stay active during pregnancy. You don't have to do heavy exercises as before pregnancy, a low strenuous exercise works best at this time such as swimming, walking, low-impact aerobics, etc. Exercising while pregnant will help to reduce:

    What About Underweight Pregnancy?

Usually, underweight pregnancy is related to those having BMI under 18.5. It can cause some of the effects below:
    • Small birth weights
    • Birth defects with deficient key nutrients due to improper diet and lack of nutrition.
    • Can lead to eating disorders in later life.

What Are the Concerns for Young Aged Mothers?

Those young mothers under 17 are at most risk for complications which can cause hypertension, cephalopelvic disproportion, iron deficiency anemia,& unsafe abortion. Higher rates of premature labour, stillbirth, early death during childhood are also one of the high risks.

      A Bit Of Advices

      • Don't worry so much about "How Much Weight Should You Gain During Pregnancy?" instead, try to gain weight slowly and gradually
      • Meet all nutrient and energy needs and no more!
      • "I like to move it! move it!" Keep on moving!
      • Monitor pregnancy with your physician consistently

      Diabetes and Pregnancy

      This post talks
about the risks that diabetes can have during pregnancy. With each pregnancy, all women have a 3% to 5% chance of having a baby with a birth defect. This information should not take the place of medical care and advice from your health care provider.

      What is diabetes?

Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or cannot use insulin properly.Insulin is a naturally occurring hormone in the blood that is necessary for providing our cells with energy to function.Insulin helps sugar (glucose) move from the bloodstream into the cells. When glucose cannot enter our cells, it builds up in the blood (hyperglycemia). This can lead to damage of organs including the eyes and kidneys, or damage of blood vessels and nerves.

      Spotting In Pregnancy

Today I'm going to share with you a topic about 'Spotting In Pregnancy'. Though some might  interpret this as normal in pregnancy, this can become a serious thing if the bleeding didn't go away after a while.  Go and see your doctor right away even if it stops after that, it's better safe than sorry. Spotting does happen normally and it did happened to my wife and I took her to see the doctor after that..Different women may need different treatment, so the first thing your doctor should do is give you an evaluation. This could mean you need to take a few tests like a physical, an ultrasound, and blood tests. When these tests come back normal, your doctor will know for sure you and your baby are healthy and make sure there are no complications.for a couple of days. Pregnancy spotting is one of the most common pregnancy complications that can occur during the first trimester. So let's get some better understanding on what is spotting in pregnancy shall we?

Whats the difference between bleeding and spotting?

Spotting is very light bleeding, similar to what you may have at the very beginning or end of your period. It can vary in color from pink turned to brown (the color of dried blood).

      Why spotting during pregnancy happens?

There's a lot of different reasons to why a spotting can happen and even your doctor cannot be sure of why. Here's a couple of reasons why it could happen.

      1. Early Implantation Bleeding

Before you even take a pregnancy test, its possible to experience bleeding, even this early in a pregnancy. Doctors aren't for sure but they believe this is caused by the fertilized egg trying to burrow into the uterus.

      2. Sex/Intercourse

When you have sex, more blood goes to your cervix, so it's normal if you see some light spotting after sex. Some women may develop a cervical polyp (a benign growth on the cervix), and not even know, but this could be the reason why we are seeing the blood after sex.

      3. STD Infections

Sometimes your spotting may be totally unrelated to your being pregnant. Your cervix may get irritated and become inflamed because of vaginal infection (yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis) or even an STD. An inflamed cervix is known to cause spotting after sex and certain tests.

Placental problems or premature delivery bleeding or spotting during the 2nd or 3rd could be a sign of a more serious problem such as placenta previa, placental abruption (placenta separates from the uterus), late miscarriage (Week 13 in mid-pregnancy), or preterm labor. Even if you see bleeding in the 1st quarter, this could be a sign of another problem with the placenta. Studies showed that there has been a greater chance of complications later in women who experience early pregnancy spots, such as premature labor or placental abruption, particularly if too much bleeding.

      4. Ectopic Pregnancy or Miscarriage

If spotting is followed by abdominal pain and cramping, this may be a sign you are having a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. Its important to let your doctor know about any signs of blood or spotting, because a miscarriage could be life threatening, not only for you but also the baby.Studies show about 25% of pregnant women show some spotting during early pregnancy. About half of those end up being a miscarriage. You should get an ultrasound between your 7th and 11th week of pregnancy. And if it shows a strong heartbeat in the baby now, the chances of your pregnancy continuing normal are higher than 90%.

      5. Internal Exam or Pap Smear

Normally, after a Pap test or other types of internal reviews is done, one can also observe this light bleeding. It is caused by more blood flows to the cervix area.

      6. Impending Labor

When you get close to giving birth your cervix dilates and you may pass your mucus plug. It may be colored red from blood, this is why they call it the "bloody show". Anytime past 37 weeks you may pass your mucus plug, and this is normal. But if it looks red like there's a lot of blood, make sure you call your doctor.

So that's some of the reasons that can cause spotting. Remember to have a regular visit to your doctor and consult with then for every doubts, concerns that you have.

How To Name Your Muslim Child The Right Way!

Although it's still early for me, I don't think it's a bad idea for me to start thinking about naming my child. As for me, my religious teaching requires me to look for meaningful names, good names with good meaning as some believed that whatever name that you chooses for you children, it will somehow impact their future life and I believe this is also true for other religions too. Choosing a good and meaningful name is very important as a name is like a prayer, every single day people will be calling your name. Just imagine that you (without proper knowledge) named your child with a bad name, for example something that relates to stubbornness or stupid, people will be calling your child's name time and time and it will act like a prayer or wish and you won't want that for your kids right? So how exactly you should name your child? I will share today some of the tips i get to name your Muslim child and also bad way to name your child.

Recommended Way To Name You Child

      1. Named after the Prophets like Muhammad, Isa, Ibrahim, Nuh, Yaakob, etc.

      2. Name taken from Asma 'ul Husna (99 names of Allah) - Prophet Muhammad S.A.W has once told that Abdul Rahman (Slave of the Generous; Compassionate; Beneficent) and Abdullah (Slave of Allah) are the names that Allah loves most. I should also point out that in order to use one of the names of Allah, you must put 'Abdul' (meaning ‘slave of’) in front of it and you can't use 'Abdul' with other names except for the 99 names of Allah.

      3. Named after the Prophet's close friends - Name such as Abu Bakar, Umar, Uthman, Ali, Saad, Zubair and others are also a good choice for a baby name. They are known as good friends of the Prophets, good leaders, good thinkers, good noble people.

Forbidden Way To Name Your Child

      1. Bad degrading names such as Sariq (Thieves), Ashiah ( those who are immoral), Kilab (Dogs), Jahil (Stupid).

      2. Names specially for Allah only like Ahad (the only One) .

      3. Names that didn't have any useful meaning such as Malikul Amlak ( Kings of all kings), Aflah (Prosperous), Yasar (Left-wing - in political term)  as prohibited by Prophet Muhammad S.A.W with his saying:
"Do not call your boy Yasar, nor Rabah, nor Najeeh, nor Aflah, since you will say: Is he there?' So it will be said: 'No'. Indeed they are four, so do not attribute more to me." (Reported by Muslim, Abu Dawud & At-Tirmidhee)
       4. Name with 'Abdul' (Slave of) with other attributes other than Allah's 99 names like Abdul Uzza (Uzza's Slave), Abdul Kaabah (Kaabah's Slave), Abdul Fulus (Money Slave).

Recommended names and Forbidden names information is taken from 'Indahnya Hidup Bersyariat by Dato' Ismail Kamus' book given by my uncle. It's a good book and I recommend those of you in Malaysia to get it.

So for those expecting a child like me...please do share with me what's your most likely name for your unborn child...I would love to hear it from you guys :-)

Daddy and Mummy 'Camping' at PUSRAWI

Today at 10 O'clock, mummy checkout from PUSRAWI after two nights stay. Alhamdullillah nothing bad to be worried of. The doctor is still figuring out what's the cause of the gastric pain, the ultrasound came up positive and there's no sign of any liver-stone or anything like that. For now the doctor supplied mummy with some medicines and follow up checkup is scheduled for next week to see if the pain still persists. Granny called and she said it's alright and Daddy shouldn't worry too much as long as nothing critical found,. She said it's parts and parcels of pregnancy and becoming a mommy. If the pain still persists, the doctor will perform endoscopic procedure to see what's wrong with her esophagus. We will try to avoid that as much as possible due to the reason of you being still so young (8 weeks) and for the procedure to be done, mommy must be given a dosage of sleeping pills which is not recommended for pregnancy below 12 weeks.

Mummy complains she looks bloated due to the constant IV drop given to her but she still looks pretty to daddy hehehe..and today finally Daddy get to sleep properly on a bed instead of the small couch in the hospital...Pregnancy is tough, but daddy will always be there for Mummy.

Disney Online Study: Moms Spend 24 Hours a Week Online

Latest study by Disney on Moms online habits shows that they spend their time online at least 24 hours a week. Disney Online‘s M.O.M. – Mom on a Mission study was conducted in June 2010 by Ipsos OTX MediaCT, with the objective of gaining insights to understand today’s Mom, her roles, and how technology and the Internet affect her life. The study was conducted in two phases: consumer immersion blogs and online quantitative study. In Phase One, nine moms interacted in an online, secure blogging environment by uploading images, video and text for one week. In Phase Two, an online quantitative study was conducted with a sample of 3,300 females, ages 21-54, who were either currently pregnant or had one child in their household between the ages of 0-14 years.

When asked about how they use technology, Moms said that the different devices they use make being a Mom easier. According to the study, Moms use the following technology and devices:

      • Computer (89%)
      • Internet (87%)
      • Mobile Device (84%)
      • Television (80%)
      • Digital Camera (77%)
      • CD/DVD Player (75%)
      • Social Networks (55%)
Moms said they also use technology to create more opportunities for family bonding activities such as playing games on the Nintendo Wii and watching movies on their DVD and Blu-ray player.
Moms Start Their Day with Coffee and the Internet
Moms spend the most time on the Internet between the hours of 5am and noon, so they can get a lot done! They use the Internet to connect with others, find information, plan activities and for entertainment. They check email, visit their favorite sites, manage tasks and read the news. With all that Moms have on their plate, they are very task oriented while online:
Three out of four Moms go online with a specific activity or goal in mind
Moms spends an average of 6.9 hours a week online connecting with family and friends: 84% stay connected through email and 69% through social networks
In an average week, Mom spends one full day online!
Moms Turn to the Internet First for Information:

For subjects other than their child’s health, Moms turn to the Internet as their primary source of information:
71% go online to find deals or discounts
      71% to find recipes

Top Iphone Pregnancy Apps for Mom and Dad

I admit that I'm sort of a geek also..but not extremely geeky to the extend of wearing geeky glasses and holding laptop wherever i go LOL. I'm a Application Support Engineer with also a background of Software Engineering so I do honestly loves anything to do with computers and technology (Gadgets). Me and my wife we both own an iPhone and today I thought of sharing a couple of best iPhone pregnancy app that we personally uses and some others as well for all future/current expecting parents. So here we go. (I personally have them all on my Iphone as well)

      1. iPregnancy - This app is one of the famous and most recommended app for pregnancy. I personally use this with also Baby Bump which i will cover next. This app is really extensive and very useful. You can have all your baby information in there as well as your Obstetrician visits information, reminder, important contact numbers, storing baby names suggestions, week to week information for you to know on the pregnancy (General), and you can also share your information to Facebook & Twitter. The only downside for me is the interface is kind of plain and lack the 'baby theme' that's all but it generally does what it's suppose to do. You can't expect much (in terms of design) when it's coming from a pediatrician.

      2. Baby Bump - What i like most about baby bump other than the usual must-have functions is the interface and also the theme of the app, It really captures the true nature of the app. It has week to week information on pregnancy, journal, photo album, kick counter, contractions, database of baby names, and one feature called 'Birth' where in there you can set your birth plan, newborn essentials checklist, and also a neat feature of 'Birth Announcement' where as soon as your baby is born you can set all the details (name,weight,gender,D.O.B, length) and send the 'Announcement' by email, twitter, and also Facebook. This is to me the best iphone pregnancy app and I really recommend this to moms and dads out there!!

      Preconception Apps

      iPeriod from winkpass
      1. iPeriod - For those planning to have baby or just keeping your period information, this is one of the apps that my wife uses.
      2. Period Tracker - Another apps for the ladies out there which is also used by my wife. We use it both to keep track on her period and also for us to keep track on the best date to try an conceive.

There you go guys, I've listed a couple of the best iPhone app that I personally use (and still using). You can go to HERE for more detailed review on both of the apps.

      Earn With Apps
Now, I do believe that there's plenty of other pregnancy apps for mom and dad out there, some of them are good and some of them are pretty bad. But the worst thing is they still make money out of it? You wondered how on earth did they do that? Well, I'm a developer myself (but not on mobile apps - not yet!) and I came around on some ideas on improving the pregnancy apps out there and make tons of money but I'm not familiar with apps programming. So I did a research and found an interesting guide book that is very interesting on how to start from scratch (developing made easy) until the part where you'll be making money out of it! Highly recommended!
      Make iPhone Apps
or for those thinking "Hey..I don't have any experience at all on programming, how do I achieve that?" Well, there's another excellent guide titled How To Create iPhone Apps With No Programming Experience. Have you heard of the ridiculous app called iFart? and how a Crazy iFart App Debate Turned into a $54,657 Profit in Just 30 Days. The guide will show You How to Turn Your iPhone App idea into Cash Without Programming, Expensive Equipment, or Complicated Software. Try it!

      8 Pregnancy Signs and Symptoms

I'm going to share with you today on 8 pregnancy signs and symptoms in hope it will be useful to couples who plan to have a baby. Why I'm saying this is that, it is more to precautions to not overdo yourself after knowing that you're pregnant to avoid miscarriage or worse, this goes to the partner also, It's good to be alert especially if you're planning. I've heard a lot of miscarriage stories because they didn't realize that they were pregnant. So for those planning to get pregnant, this would be a good read. This list is derived from my wife's symptoms when she get pregnant.

      1. Fatigue/Exhaustion
This normally happens on the early stages of pregnancy and also towards the end. The cheerful and energetic wife of mine became weak and easily exhausted.

      2. Missed Period
This is a very obvious sign for those on a regular period cycle but not in the case of irregular period cycle like my wife. It's best to avoid any physical activities once you've passed your regular period cycle to be safe.

      3. Heartburn & Gastric
This is a very popular pregnancy signs and symptoms which also happens to my wife right now and I can tell you that it's not an easy feeling looking at your wife having the pain due to the higher amount of acid in the stomach. The enlargement of the uterus puts pressure on the stomach causing acid build-up. This can be avoided by drinking milk and avoiding spicy and oily food.

      4. Frequent Urination
Enlargement of the uterus not only puts pressure on stomach but also the bladder causing the feel of going more often.

      5. Soreness of the Breasts
Although this sign is also very common for an impending period but the soreness in this case is caused by the tissue changes preparing for pregnancy. You will also experience the breast became larger and the nipple will become bigger and darker.

      6. Strange Cravings
Yup..I'm having more Chicken Rice now than ever in my entire life due to my wife's craving of it :-D

      7. Dizziness
This is because of the low blood pressure due to pregnancy, it do become worse at times if you are having the symptoms even when you're not pregnant like my wife.

      8. Cramp
Cramping during pregnancy is usually confused with impending period.

So guys...that's 8 of the pregnancy signs and symptoms that you can look into while planning. Remember future daddies, DO NOT allow your partner to do heavy physical works when they're pregnant, keep them happy & smiling all the time, be there when they need you, and do your share of house chores ;-) Happy Planning!

Tips: Heartburn & Gastric during pregnancy

My wife has gastric since her teenage days but nothing too serious that requires her to get constant medication. But as she get pregnant, her gastric problem came back and causing her to have this heartburn sensation in the chest and throat, everything to her now taste different and her tongue tasted bitter all the time, the increased amount of acid in her stomach caused her to be 'gassy' all the time. Well according to the doctor this pain during pregnancy normally happens to most of pregnant women  (early pregnancy) and usually it will go away/reduced after the first Trimester. So, as a concerned husband i did some research on how to reduce the feeling of discomfort caused by gastric, heartburn information, treatment for heartburn and thought i would share it with you guys. Here's how we can help them:

      Tips:

      1. Avoid food that can trigger acid build-up such as oily food, vinegar, some citrus fruits, chocolate, spicy foods, caffeinated products (Coffee, Tea, Cola), carbonated drinks, anything sourly.

      2. Try to eat more regularly with smaller portions. As our wives become pregnant, the content of acid in their stomach increased and the process of food digestion also become slower thus the reason of lowering the volume of food and best if they munch their food as many times as possible before swallowing to help the food to processed faster reducing the acid buildup.

      3. No ALCOHOL, Period! Alcohol and Pregnancy does not mix!

      4. Ask them to wear comfortable clothing that didn't restrict/pressing your stomach and waist.

      5. Don't overstress them, this can also cause acid reflux to go wacko!

      6. Drink yogurt based drinks or milk before sleep

      7. Try chewing gum after eating. Chewing gum stimulates your salivary glands, and saliva can help neutralize acid

      8. Avoid eating close to bedtime.

      9. Drinking soy-milk and barley also helps.

      10. Medication: ALWAYS consult with your gynecologist on what medication that your spouse can take.

      11. Also i found a very interesting way to reduce heartburn & acid reflux  which is clinically proven  and unique and it's using a 5-Step Holistic System CLICK HERE.

So there you go guys, I hoped the info i shared with you is beneficial and helpful in any way possible..

Awesome time lapse video from a very loving father

Imagine taking pictures of your beloved daughter nearly everyday since she was born until she is 10 years old and compile it into a video..Super Cool!!..I wish I could do this also but I'm not sure if I have the courage, patience, and devotion of Natalie's Dad..From day 1 to 10 years old in 1 minute twenty-three seconds video follows:

Christmas: Top 5 gifts for the new dad

Since Christmas is around the corner, i believe for those celebrating Christmas this would be the busiest time before Christmas..and probably the mums are also in the hunt to get something for their dad-to-be..A new father gifts must be something that's useful not only for them personally but also something that they can share with their sons and daughters. So I'm going to share my top 5 wish list (even though i didn't celebrate Christmas ;-)) with you guys.

      1. Baby Books

Especially for the expectant fathers, basic books about babies are something for is very essential and very useful. Most of the books will share about what to expect before and after a baby's birth, so basically information for the Dad to be fully involved in the child rearing world for example this interesting book by Jennifer Margulis, James di Properzio called The Baby Bonding Book for Dads: Building a Closer Connection With Your Baby selling at $10.85 on Amazon.

      2. Baby Carrier

Although most of the early months after birth the mother will be the one whose close to the child all the time, a dad should also take this chance to bond by having a baby carrier such as the Over the shoulder carrier, front baby carrier, etc. I would prefer the front carrier in their earlier years and switch to the back carrier as they get older due to the weight-to-gravitational-proportion ratio LOL. Just look at this sleek looking baby carrier Evenflo Snugli Front and Back Soft Carrier, Black/Gray selling at $29.99 only, plain, simple just as what I would like in a baby carrier...Add to Cart!! :-D

      3. Baby Car Seat

Did i hear somebody said "Bucket Seat"? Yea i heard ya..It is so..definitely the things that I'll be checking out each time me and my wife went out for a walk/window-shopping at the mall..Baby car seat is definitely essential for those having cars. But I have to remind you Dad's to choose wisely as baby do grow and appropriate car seat for the age/weight is also important. Although I love things that is plain and simple but in the in this case i would prefer more strong, sturdy design like the Graco Snugride 35 Infant Car Seat, Brunswick, in the case of children i prefer to be safe than sorry. Last but not least, Safety First! make sure to properly install the seat and buckle-up nicely every time in use.

      4. A Camera & a Scrap Book

Being a shutterbug myself, i really loved and looking forward for the prospect of capturing all the growing-up moments of my child. So a camera and a scrapbook to keep all the 'moments' is really becoming a trend now especially for the facebook savvy moms and dad, perfect for a new father gift. I'll be snapping with my Canon PowerShot S95 10 MP Digital Camera for now until i can get my hands my dream DSLR Nikon D7000.

      5. Diaper Bag

This is a MUST! for those always on the move. It's storage bag with multiple pocket like spaces enough to carry all the basic necessities for a baby such as diaper, wet wipes, bottle, bibs, pacifier, etc. It usually comes with different styling and colors and for us men, nowadays they even have the rugged look in the ever growing sector to appeal to men. If recommendation is required, i believe this cool, hip, funky diaper bag Diaper Dude Diaper Bag at $43.99 from Diaper Dude is the one to look for. With dad in mind for the design, WE Men can now carry it proud wherever we go ;-).

Well that's all i can think of right now on what would appeal to me and probably to other dad's also..feel free to share with me on what you think about it or your ideas on other great items on top of what I've listed in this post :-) Happy Hunting!

For those celebrating Christmas...May you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Holidays..cheers

To my child: This is your story..

Hi to all the readers out there..especially to the newly dad out there like me :-) The reason I'm writing this blog is to share my joy and journey of becoming a parent from a dad point of view. Since the positive pregnancy test news came to me, I can't stop thinking and thought about writing about it..I'm not too sure about other similar blogs or websites but normally I would find blogs on expecting mothers more than the fathers. So I would share all my encounters, tips, products used, articles and a lot more which i found useful for us Dad's..and most importantly..I hope this blog will become a historical journey that will be remembered and read by my son/daughter when he/she grow up..and hopefully he/she will take note on the love and hardships of their parent and becomes a better person and parents one day..

To my child...this is your story..
